Delhi Police informs Arvind Kejriwal about Indian Mujahideen's plans to abduct him |
Arvind Kejriwal has reportedly been informed by the Delhi Police
that terror outfit Indian Mujahideen plans to abduct him to
negotiate for the release of their top operative Yasin Bhatkal, who
was arrested last year.
The Delhi chief minister, who has been at loggerheads with the
city's police, posted a series of irate tweets this evening. He
confirmed that he had been informed about a threat and accused
the police and the Centre of "playing politics with my security."
"Police officials met me in afternoon. Informed me about threat.
Asked me not to disclose it to media. Then they themselves went
and told media," Mr Kejriwal tweeted, and also, "Rather than
giving security to me, let them deploy these men for aam aadmi's
security."
Press Trust of India has quoted police sources to report that the
cops had informed Mr Kejriwal about the alleged Indian
Mujahideen plan and requested him to accept 'Z' category
security cover based on the threat perception. They reportedly
said they had inputs from intelligence agencies.
Mr Kejriwal, who has consistently refused to accept security
cover, said, "I am not afraid for my life, I will not take any
security." The Aam Aadmi Party propagates freeing up cops from
VIP security for better policing.
The chief minister tweeted this evening, "Is Delhi Police so
foolish or are they playing politics? At whose instance?"
Mr Kejriwal has threatened to sit in protest outside union Home
Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde's North Block office from
tomorrow morning if three cops, who he says did not perform
their public duty, are not suspended.
Mr Kejriwal had on Friday complained to Mr Shinde about Delhi
Police Commissioner BS Bassi's refusal to take action against the
policemen and had demanded that he consider transferring
control of the Delhi Police to the state government. The Delhi
Police reports to the Centre.
Bhatkal's arrest in August last year had dealt a big blow to the
Indian Mujahideen. He is accused of having been involved in a
string of terror attacks in multiple cities.
